Police Rescue Minister's Family from Kidnapping Hideout

After days of searching, police in Oyo State rescued Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her 12-year-old twin sons from kidnappers who held them in a secluded bungalow on the outskirts of Ibadan. The family returned home safe on Saturday night following a coordinated rescue operation.

John-Paul, the younger sister of former Power Minister Bayo Adelabu, was abducted with her sons from their home in the Elewura-Challenge area early Wednesday morning. Kidnappers transported them to a three-bedroom house in the remote Ayegun area, where they kept the family hidden for days.

Police Commissioner Oluwagbemiga Abimbola credited the successful rescue to technical intelligence and surveillance work that began immediately after the June 3 kidnapping. His team tracked the suspects to their hideout and launched the operation Saturday night.

The rescue wasn't without danger. A fierce gun battle erupted during the midnight raid, resulting in the deaths of two gang members. Officers arrested four suspects at the scene and recovered weapons including a pump-action shotgun, though some kidnappers escaped with gunshot wounds.

What makes this rescue even more significant is the message it sends about community cooperation. Commissioner Abimbola noted that neighbors had noticed suspicious activity around the property but hadn't reported it to authorities.

Now police are using this case to encourage residents across Oyo State to speak up when they see something unusual. "If you see something, you say something," Abimbola told journalists at the scene, emphasizing that earlier reports might have prevented the kidnapping entirely.

The commissioner called on communities to become active partners in their own safety. Investigators learned that people living near the hideout heard unusual sounds from the compound but stayed silent out of fear or uncertainty.
