Police Rescue Two Kidnap Victims in 24 Hours in Nigeria

Two families in northern Nigeria are celebrating tonight after police rescued their loved ones from kidnappers in back-to-back operations that lasted less than 24 hours.

The Kebbi State Police Command worked with local vigilante groups to free both men unharmed, marking a significant win in a region where kidnappings have terrorized rural communities. One suspect is now in police custody.

The first rescue happened early on January 29 when armed bandits broke into a home in Kokani Village and abducted Alhaji Juli Muhammad, a 55-year-old businessman. They bound him with chains and ropes before dragging him into nearby bushland.

Officers from Kalgo Division teamed up with the Vigilante Group of Nigeria and tracked the kidnappers using intelligence from local residents. They found Muhammad unharmed and arrested 30-year-old suspect Umar Usman on the spot.

The very next day, police in Dandi area responded to reports that 50-year-old Garba Bachal had been taken from Maigwaza Village around lunchtime. Officers arrived so quickly that the kidnappers panicked and abandoned Bachal before fleeing.

Bachal received medical checks at Maigwaza Hospital and is recovering well. Police have increased patrols in both areas to prevent the criminals from regrouping.

These rescues show what happens when communities and police work together. Security experts say quick tips from residents made all the difference in both cases, turning what could have been drawn-out hostage situations into swift victories.

Police spokesman SP Bashir Usman credited the teamwork between officers and local groups for saving both men. Investigations continue to track down other gang members.
