Portugal Takes 8 Tech Startups to Vancouver Web Summit

Portugal's tech scene is making waves across the Atlantic as eight innovative startups prepare to showcase their solutions at Web Summit Vancouver from May 11 to 14.

The delegation represents some of Portugal's brightest minds in technology, from companies building smart biosensors to platforms enabling real-time music collaboration across continents. Startup Portugal, a nonprofit promoting entrepreneurship, organized the mission to strengthen the country's presence in North American markets.

"Web Summit Vancouver is a key opportunity to strengthen the presence of Portuguese startups in North America, allowing us to demonstrate the quality of our technology, talent and global scaling capacity," said Alexandre Santos, head of Startup Portugal. This marks the second consecutive year Portugal has sent a delegation to the Vancouver event.

The eight companies span diverse sectors that address real world challenges. CYBERX focuses on ethical hacking and threat intelligence to keep businesses safe. ENLINE creates digital twins for power grids, making energy infrastructure smarter and more efficient. Nitrogen Sensing Solutions develops biosensors that could transform how we monitor environmental health.

Other standouts include JAMMIN', which lets musicians collaborate in real time no matter where they are, and AIVIS, which uses artificial intelligence to automate complex operational tasks. DAISEE helps businesses make better decisions through advanced document analysis, while Vision Hammer automatically detects and fixes engineering problems in computer code.

The Ripple Effect spreads beyond the startups themselves. Collectively, these eight companies have raised more than €7 million in investment and created jobs for about 70 professionals. They already operate in multiple international markets, proving that Portuguese innovation can compete globally.

During the four day summit at the Vancouver Convention Centre, the startups will meet thousands of investors, tech firms, and industry leaders. The "Lisboa & Portugal Lounge" will serve as a hub for demonstrations and networking, while a special masterclass on May 13 will promote Portugal as an attractive destination for tech investment and startup development.

The Lisbon city council is supporting the initiative, recognizing that today's small startups can become tomorrow's major employers and innovation drivers. Investment firms Think8, Laika Ventures, and Dengun are joining the mission to help connect Portuguese entrepreneurs with funding opportunities.

Portugal's tech ecosystem continues proving that great innovation doesn't require Silicon Valley zip codes.
