NASA's astronauts are getting a stylish upgrade for their return to the moon, thanks to an unexpected collaboration between space technology and high fashion.

Prada and Axiom Space just unveiled a sleek cooling undergarment that will keep astronauts comfortable during lunar moonwalks. The Liquid Cooling and Ventilation Garment features tubes that circulate cold water around astronauts' bodies, preventing overheating while they explore the moon's surface.

The Italian fashion house has spent years working with Axiom Space, the private company NASA commissioned to design new space suits for the Artemis missions. This marks the first major upgrade to NASA's space suit technology in over 20 years.

The high-tech onesie does more than just look good with its signature Prada red stripe. It actively manages the astronauts' thermal environment while delivering oxygen and removing carbon dioxide from inside their suits.

"Every minute astronauts spend outside their vehicle, the LCVG is working to keep them safe," said Russell Ralston, Axiom Space's senior vice president of spacecraft development. He added that Prada's expertise in design, patternmaking, and advanced materials helped achieve capabilities the space company couldn't reach alone.
