Provo High Wins First Basketball Title in 18 Years

Eighteen years is a long time to wait, but for Provo High School, Saturday night made every moment worth it.

The Bulldogs dominated Hurricane High 62-42 at Weber State's Dee Event Center, capturing their first state basketball championship since 2008. Captain Makai Allen hoisted the trophy overhead as fans and teammates swarmed the court in celebration.

The victory showcased everything that made Provo special this season. Four players scored in double figures, proving the team's strength went far beyond its star duo of Allen and Callen Tollestrup.

"When teams have to key on Makai, you're going to get back cuts," said head coach Chris Collinsworth. "We worked really hard to help our guys understand where they can succeed alongside those two."

The championship run nearly ended in the quarterfinals. Provo found itself down 21 points to Sky View before mounting an incredible comeback that set the stage for their title run.

That resilience became the team's calling card. When Hurricane tried to shut down the stars, other Bulldogs stepped up and delivered.

This championship means more than a trophy in a display case. For a generation of Provo students, this is their first taste of basketball glory at the state level.
