A sentence written inside an auto-rickshaw in Pune wasn't meant to go viral, but sometimes the smallest gestures carry the most weight.

Content creator Unnati Devaliya almost missed it entirely. She and her group had booked an auto from Yerawada to visit relatives in Kharadi, and the ride felt routine until the very end.

As they stepped out, a handwritten line on the interior wall caught her eye: "I am also someone's father and brother. Your safety is important to me. Sit down without any worries."

The words stayed with her long after the ride ended. Hours later, she shared a brief video of the message, not expecting much response.

But people connected with what the words represented. For many passengers, especially women traveling alone, feeling safe in public transport isn't always guaranteed.

This wasn't a flashy sign or a marketing stunt. It was a quiet reassurance from driver Datta Rumale, who lives a modest life with his wife and two children.

Unnati wanted to find him, but had no contact information. She reached out to Rapido on Instagram, and they eventually connected her to Rumale.

When they spoke, he sounded genuinely surprised by the attention. His wife, who creates content, had seen the viral video and helped trace it back to him.

Unnati and her companions visited Rumale's home with a cake as thanks. They met a humble family living simply, navigating the unpredictability of daily auto-rickshaw work.

Rumale shared how he often travels several kilometers before finding passengers each day. There was no complaint in his voice, just matter-of-fact acceptance of his routine.

After their visit, he insisted on dropping them at a bus stand. They offered ₹100 as fare, which he reluctantly accepted.

A few minutes later, he returned with two bottles of water and the remaining change. It was unexpected, Unnati said, but it reinforced everything his message had promised.

The gesture wasn't performative. Rumale doesn't use social media and had written those words simply because he believed them.
