Qantas Opens Adelaide Tech Hub, Creates 400 Jobs

Qantas has opened its first Product Innovation Center outside Sydney, and the Adelaide facility is already reshaping how Australia's flagship airline connects with millions of travelers.

The purpose-built center in Adelaide's downtown brings together product managers, software engineers, AI specialists, and digital designers under one roof. Their mission: transform every step of the customer journey using homegrown technology and artificial intelligence.

Fifty employees have already moved into the new space, with Qantas currently hiring for 40 additional positions. Over the next three years, the airline plans to grow the center to more than 400 digital and technology roles with support from the South Australian Government.

The pilot team launched in a temporary space earlier this year and has already made progress. They've developed real-time customer feedback tools and new AI-driven experiences built entirely on Qantas data, allowing the airline to test ideas and solve problems faster than ever before.

Rachel Yangoyan, Qantas Group Chief Technology Officer, said South Australia's university network and growing tech community made it the perfect location for long-term innovation. The center taps into some of the country's best talent to build more personalized travel experiences for the millions of passengers who fly Qantas each year.

South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas called the decision a significant vote of confidence in the state. The 400 highly skilled jobs bring new opportunities for locals and help attract talented people from across Australia to Adelaide.

The Ripple Effect

Qantas isn't just hiring experienced professionals. The airline has partnered with Adelaide University to create direct recruitment pathways for graduates, giving South Australian students a clear route into technology careers with one of Australia's most recognized companies.

The response has been overwhelming. Hundreds of applications flooded in for the first graduate intake, with the new cohort set to begin in February 2027. These early-career opportunities give the next generation direct access to cutting-edge aviation technology work without leaving home.

The center represents more than job creation. It signals a shift in how major corporations view regional tech hubs and proves that world-class innovation work can happen outside traditional capital city centers.
