Reality Star Donates Entire Paycheck to Child Abuse Charity

When Mikayla Matthews says her values aren't for sale, she means it.

The 26-year-old reality star announced she's donating her entire remaining paycheck from Secret Lives of Mormon Wives to the National Children's Alliance, a charity supporting children and families affected by abuse. The decision came days after she left the Hulu series in mid-September over ethical concerns about a returning cast member.

"When I said there's no amount of money worth changing my stance on all of this, I meant it," Matthews wrote on Instagram. She explained that giving away money she was willing to lose felt like the right way to support a cause that has shaped her entire life.

Matthews has been open about surviving childhood sexual abuse by three different people between ages 6 and 15. She shared her story publicly during a May 2025 podcast appearance and incorporated her recovery journey into her time on Mormon Wives.

Her departure from the show wasn't impulsive. Matthews told production before filming season 6 that she wouldn't participate if a specific cast member returned because "it's unethical and kids are involved." She filmed while that person was absent, then stopped when she learned they were coming back.

Matthews turned a painful decision into powerful action. Walking away from a paycheck is hard enough, but transforming that lost income into support for vulnerable children shows remarkable character.

The National Children's Alliance confirmed the donation will fund Children's Advocacy Centers nationwide. Laura Turner, the organization's director of development and strategic initiatives, said Matthews' public message also inspired fans to contribute, multiplying the impact beyond her personal gift.

By honoring both her contract and her convictions, Matthews found a way to exit gracefully while creating real good. She fulfilled her legal obligations to the show while ensuring her earnings would help kids who've faced similar trauma.
