Red Cross Volunteers Deliver 900+ Meals After Michigan Floods

When floodwaters tore through Northern Michigan last week, a small army of volunteers showed up with exactly what people needed most: hot meals, clean supplies, and hope.

The American Red Cross mobilized nearly 60 disaster workers who assessed more than 70 homes across Emmet County by April 21. Of those, 14 homes were either destroyed or sustained major damage, leaving families facing an uncertain future.

But the volunteers didn't just count the damage. They got to work immediately, distributing over 100 relief items including cleanup kits to help families salvage what they could. Working alongside community partners, they've served more than 900 meals and snacks to residents trying to piece their lives back together.

Red Cross shelters opened their doors to anyone who needed a safe place to stay. So far, more than 70 residents have found refuge there, with volunteers providing 88 overnight stays and the comfort of knowing they're not facing this crisis alone.

The response shows how quickly communities can come together when disaster strikes. Every cleanup kit, every hot meal, and every night of shelter came from donations and volunteer hours given freely by people who care.
