Revolution Wind Powers 350,000 Homes in New England

New England just got a huge boost in clean, affordable energy. Revolution Wind, a massive 704-megawatt offshore wind farm, started feeding power into the region's electric grid on March 14, bringing renewable energy to more than 350,000 homes and businesses.

The project arrives at exactly the right moment. With electricity demand climbing from new manufacturing plants and data centers, New England needed more power fast. Revolution Wind delivers it under 20-year fixed-price contracts with Rhode Island and Connecticut, protecting families from price spikes.

The savings are eye-opening. Connecticut's Department of Energy and Environmental Protection estimates the wind farm will save New England ratepayers as much as $500 million per year in wholesale energy costs once it reaches full operation.

Winter is when Revolution Wind really shines. The turbines generate especially strong output during cold months, precisely when New England's energy supplies get tight and prices typically surge. ISO New England, which runs the regional power grid, calls offshore wind projects like this critical for keeping the lights on reliably.

This project put thousands of Americans to work. More than 2,000 workers supported Revolution Wind across construction, operations, shipping, and manufacturing roles. Over 1,000 local union workers logged more than 2 million hours building the wind farm.

The investment ripples beyond this single project. Ørsted, one of the joint venture partners, is pouring nearly $700 million into American shipbuilding and vessel contracts for its U.S. offshore projects. That money is helping build 14 brand-new American-made vessels.

The Ripple Effect

Revolution Wind proves that fighting climate change and strengthening the economy aren't competing goals. The project creates union jobs, lowers energy bills, and reduces carbon emissions all at once. It shows what happens when states invest in homegrown energy resources instead of relying on fuel shipped from elsewhere.

The wind farm also strengthens regional energy security. By generating power locally from an endless natural resource, New England becomes less vulnerable to supply disruptions and price swings that hit families' wallets hard.
