Families struggling to find affordable homes just got a powerful new ally in the fight against the housing shortage.

Reframe Systems announced it raised $40 million to expand its network of robotic microfactories across North America. The company uses automation and AI to build quality homes faster and cheaper than traditional construction methods.

The timing couldn't be better. The U.S. faces a shortage of 4.5 million homes, leaving countless families priced out of communities they want to live in. Traditional construction involves juggling 25 or more subcontractors, all competing for a shrinking pool of skilled workers.

Reframe's solution puts automated factories near communities that need housing most. Each microfactory adapts to local needs, from zoning rules to climate conditions to architectural styles. The company can deliver a triple-decker apartment building in 180 days or help wildfire victims rebuild in months rather than years.

"After the fires, we were being told that a traditional construction rebuild could take years," said Jonathan and Marisol Talbot, who lost their Altadena, California home. Reframe is completing their new wildfire-resilient bungalow in just months at a price their family could afford.

The company already completed 10 homes, with eight families already moved in. Over the next year, they'll deliver 114 more units. Their first major microfactory opens October 5 in Billerica, Massachusetts, capable of producing 500 apartments or 250 single-family homes annually using less than $5 million in equipment.

Founded in 2022 by former Amazon Robotics leaders Vikas Enti, Felipe Polido, and Aaron Small, Reframe brings serious automation expertise to housing. At Amazon, this team deployed over 500,000 robots across the global fulfillment network.
