Rockies Honor Hall of Famers With Statues at Coors Field

Two Colorado baseball heroes are getting a permanent place in team history, and fans couldn't be more thrilled.

The Rockies announced they'll unveil statues of Hall of Famers Larry Walker and Todd Helton at Coors Field this season. Walker's statue will be revealed on August 23, while Helton's follows on September 19.

"When that phone call comes and says we're going to put a statue outside of the ballpark that's going to be there forever, it's out of this world," Walker said at the announcement. More than 500 fans braved freezing temperatures to celebrate the news at Rockies Fest.

Walker played for Colorado from 1995 to 2004, earning the franchise's only MVP award in 1997. The right fielder won three batting titles and five Gold Glove Awards with the team, becoming the Rockies' first Hall of Famer in 2020.

Helton spent all 17 of his Major League seasons with Colorado before his Hall of Fame induction in 2024. He led the team to their only World Series appearance in 2007, creating one of the most iconic moments in franchise history when he recorded the final out of the championship series with arms raised to the sky.

Both players already have their numbers retired at Coors Field. Now, two of the world's most renowned sculptors, George and Mark Lundeen from Longmont, Colorado, are creating the bronze tributes.

The Ripple Effect

The statues represent more than just individual achievements. They capture a golden era of Rockies baseball when Walker helped form the legendary Blake Street Bombers lineup in the mid-1990s, bringing excitement to a young franchise.

For kids who never saw these legends play, the statues will tell Colorado's baseball story for generations. Executive Vice President Walker Monfort emphasized the importance of preserving that history for future fans running around the ballpark.

The unveilings will give longtime supporters a chance to relive cherished memories while introducing new fans to the players who built the franchise. Both ceremonies will take place before home games, turning regular season matchups into celebrations of Rockies excellence.
