Romania Gets 77 MW Wind Farm to Power Thousands of Homes

Romania is about to get a powerful boost in clean energy, thanks to an international partnership that will bring 77 megawatts of wind power to the country's southeastern region.

Swedish renewable energy company OX2 ordered 11 advanced wind turbines from the Nordex Group for the Urleasca wind farm, located near the village of Urleasca in Brăila County, about 150 kilometers northeast of Bucharest. Construction starts in late 2026, with the farm set to spin up in the second half of 2028.

The turbines represent some of the most advanced wind technology available today. Each N175/6.X turbine stands tall and efficient, designed specifically for areas where space is limited and power grids need careful management.

Norwegian energy provider Scatec ASA purchased the ready-to-build project, while OX2 will oversee construction from start to finish. The wind farm secured a long-term Contract-for-Difference with the Romanian government, guaranteeing stable clean energy prices for decades.

This deal comes with a 35-year service agreement, ensuring the turbines will keep spinning smoothly for more than three decades. That's generations of families who will benefit from cleaner air and sustainable electricity.

The Ripple Effect: Romania has become a hotspot for wind energy development, with Nordex alone securing over 500 megawatts of projects in recent months. That's enough capacity to power hundreds of thousands of homes without burning a single ounce of fossil fuel.
