Rotary International Brings Clean Water to Ghana School

Students at Brofoyedu M/A School in Ghana's Ashanti Region no longer have to worry about where to find clean water or basic sanitation during their school day.

Rotary International President Francesco Arezzo traveled to the rural community to open a new 12-seat toilet facility and mechanized borehole. The projects serve both the school and surrounding community, bringing dignified sanitation and safe drinking water to an area that desperately needed both.

The global service organization worked alongside local Rotary Club Ghana members to complete the construction. Arezzo emphasized that partnerships make the difference between projects that succeed and those that fail.

"If we attempt to work alone without the support of the community, our efforts will have little impact," he told attendees at the opening ceremony. "It is important that we move forward together to achieve meaningful development."

District Governor Nana Yaa Pokuaa Sereboɔ urged the community to care for their new facilities so they last for generations. She also revealed the school has identified other needs, and Rotary is already working to find solutions.

The Ripple Effect

Clean water access transforms far more than hydration. Students, especially girls, miss fewer school days when proper toilets exist on campus.

Communities spend less on medical care when waterborne illnesses decline. Parents gain peace of mind knowing their children learn in safe, dignified conditions.

Headmistress Patience Acquah expressed deep gratitude for the timing of the intervention. She confirmed the school and community are committed to maintaining the facilities properly, understanding how much they'll improve daily life for students and residents alike.

Rotary International pledged continued support for sustainable development projects across Ghana. The organization's local branches will keep working with communities to identify needs and create lasting solutions together.
