When Allan Saint-Maximin's children faced racist abuse at school in Mexico, the professional footballer had a choice: stay quiet or speak up, knowing it could cost him everything.

He chose his kids. The French winger left Club America mid-season and moved his family to safety in France, turning down lucrative offers to protect those he loves most.

Saint-Maximin didn't have to share his story publicly. But in January, he posted a powerful message on Instagram declaring that "hatred and discrimination have no place in our society." More than 159,000 people liked it, including his former Newcastle United teammates.

"Whatever your color is, you don't have to accept this," he told BBC Sport. The 29-year-old sat down with his four children to explain what happened wasn't normal, teaching them they never have to tolerate racism.

His decision to leave Mexico wasn't easy. Saint-Maximin loved Club America and calls it "one of the best places I've been with my family." The club and his teammates showed immediate support, holding up a "No to racism" banner before their next game.

But when random people targeted his children, the choice became clear. "I can lose a lot of things, but I will never accept this," he said. "It was important to show people, especially in my situation, that I take this responsibility."

After joining Lens on a short-term deal, Saint-Maximin helped the French club win their first-ever French Cup in 120 years. He proved you don't have to sacrifice success to stand up for what's right.
