Sammy Hagar Publicly Supports Rival David Lee Roth

When rock legend David Lee Roth's summer tour dates were suddenly canceled, the last person many expected to step up was his decades-long rival.

But Sammy Hagar surprised fans by posting an emotional video message expressing genuine concern for his fellow Van Halen frontman. "I want to say from the bottom of my heart, I'm sorry," Hagar said while raising his signature margarita. "I hope you're well. I hope there's not a physical problem."

The two rock icons have defined different eras of Van Halen since 1985. Roth launched the band to superstardom before leaving, and Hagar stepped in to carry the torch through some of the group's most successful years.

Their relationship has been anything but smooth. Despite briefly touring together in 2002, the two spent decades trading public insults and jabs.

That's what makes Hagar's gesture so meaningful. Several of Roth's July shows in Colorado, Iowa, Kentucky, and Illinois were abruptly canceled with no official explanation given.

Instead of staying silent or celebrating a competitor's setback, Hagar reached out publicly. "Honestly, Mike and I love the fact that you've been out there doing it, supporting the greatest band in the world that we were both part of," he told Roth, referencing bassist Michael Anthony.

Hagar went further by inviting Roth to join him and Anthony during their Las Vegas residency this September. "Come on, join us. Sing a couple songs, MC the damn show," he offered warmly.

Why This Inspires

Old grudges don't have to last forever. Hagar's public support shows that shared history and mutual respect can eventually outweigh years of competition.

The video resonated with fans who grew up listening to both versions of Van Halen. Hagar acknowledged what many longtime followers already knew: "You and I, Mikey, Al, Ed, cannot be replaced."

His message emphasized something bigger than personal rivalry. "It is so important that this music carry on," Hagar wrote in his post, urging fellow musicians to keep playing live music while they still can.

Roth hasn't publicly responded to the invitation or addressed the canceled dates. But Hagar's gesture has already struck a chord with fans who remember when these two couldn't say a kind word about each other.
