San Jose State Athletes Hit Record 3.27 GPA This Fall
Nearly three-quarters of San José State student athletes just achieved a 3.0 GPA or higher, pushing the entire department to its best academic performance ever. The Fall 2025 semester marks the second straight year of rising grades across all 20 sports teams.
Student athletes at San José State University just proved you can excel on the field and in the classroom at the same time.
The Spartans posted a collective 3.270 GPA for Fall 2025, crushing their previous record of 3.192 from the year before. What makes this even more impressive is that 338 student athletes (70% of the entire athletic department) earned a 3.0 or higher, while 49 students achieved perfect 4.0 marks.
The success stretched across nearly every team. Fifteen of the school's 20 sports programs hit a semester GPA above 3.0, and 16 teams maintained cumulative GPAs in that range.
"Their commitment to academic success continues to raise the bar for our department," said SJSU Director of Athletics Jeff Konya. "These results are a testament to their hard work and the culture of excellence we are building at San José State."

Behind the numbers is a dedicated support system. The Student-Athlete Resource Center (SARC) provides individualized coaching and mentoring to help athletes manage their dual commitments.
The Ripple Effect
This achievement sends a powerful message far beyond San Jose. When universities invest in comprehensive support for student athletes, everyone wins.
The SARC staff works closely with coaching teams to provide academic coaching and emotional support tailored to each athlete's needs. Managing Director De'Ron Jasper credits his team's "attention to detail and individualized support" as key to helping students thrive under pressure.
The momentum is building heading into Spring 2026. With 342 student athletes (71%) now maintaining cumulative GPAs above 3.0, San José State is creating a culture where academic excellence is the expectation, not the exception.
These students are showing younger athletes everywhere that you don't have to choose between your sport and your studies. With the right support and determination, you can chase both dreams at once.
