Santa Monica Lions Club Comedy Night Boosts Local Nonprofits
A sold-out comedy fundraiser at Bergamot Station is helping a Lions Club expand support for nonprofits facing rising demand. Eight comedians brought laughs while the community rallied behind local service organizations.
Laughter filled Bergamot Station Arts Center on May 17 as the Santa Monica Pacific Palisades Lions Club hosted its first Comedy Night fundraiser. Eight comedians took the stage at The Crow, each delivering their unique style to a packed audience ready to support their community.
The successful evening means more funding for local nonprofits struggling to meet increased demand for their services. Community members turned out in force, proving that supporting good causes and having fun don't have to be mutually exclusive.
The Lions Club stayed busy beyond the comedy stage. On Memorial Day, members Kathy Boole, Alan Parr, and Pam Andrews honored fallen service members at Woodlawn Cemetery, presenting a patriotic wreath during the annual ceremony hosted by the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.
Change is coming for the club this summer. Their June 3 meeting will be their last at the Santa Monica Elks Lodge before relocating to a new meeting spot in Santa Monica, which will be announced at that gathering.

Carol Ann Emmitt will take the helm as incoming president at the club's August 3 installation dinner at Del Rey Yacht Club. District Governor Frances Lee will officiate the ceremony, welcoming Emmitt back to a leadership role she's filled with distinction several times before.
The Ripple Effect
The comedy fundraiser's success extends far beyond one fun evening. As demand for social services rises across the Westside, the Lions Club's expanded fundraising capacity means more families will receive support when they need it most.
The club actively seeks community input on projects that could strengthen the Westside. They're built on the belief that the best solutions often come from neighbors who see needs firsthand and want to make a difference.
Anyone interested in joining the service work can attend the June 3 dinner meeting at 6:00 p.m. at the Santa Monica Elks Lodge on 1040 Pico Boulevard. New members and guests looking to connect with their community are welcome to RSVP to Kingsley Fife at 310-367-2679 or smpplionsclub@gmail.com.
One night of comedy is creating lasting change for nonprofits serving Santa Monica's most vulnerable residents.
