Saudi Arabia Installs 100 Free EV Chargers for Drivers

Free gasoline might grab headlines for a day, but imagine getting free electricity for your car anytime you need it. That's the reality for electric vehicle drivers in Saudi Arabia right now.

Luxury EV maker Lucid has installed 100 free charging stations throughout the country. These join an already impressive network of complimentary chargers at shopping malls, supermarkets, cinemas, workplaces, and public parking lots across Saudi Arabia.

Kia Saudi Arabia confirms that most of these public charging points offer free electricity to customers and visitors. Many employers have installed chargers at workplaces and let employees use them at no cost. The company encourages EV owners to plan their trips around these free charging opportunities.

The timing couldn't be better. Saudi Arabia's Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Company, backed by the country's Public Investment Fund, plans to install 5,000 fast chargers across 1,000 locations by 2030. That's a massive expansion that will make charging as convenient as stopping for gas.

Most Saudi EV owners still prefer charging at home, especially those with solar power systems. The upfront investment pays off over time with significant savings compared to gasoline. But having free public charging as a backup option removes one of the biggest barriers to going electric.
