Saudi Arabia Invests $133K in AI-Powered Cultural Projects

Saudi Arabia is betting big on the future of culture by putting AI directly into the hands of creative entrepreneurs.

The Cultural Development Fund launched the Nama' Incentives program this week, offering micro, small and medium-sized businesses up to $133,000 each to develop or adopt AI technologies for cultural projects. It's the first major initiative of its kind in the region, targeting everything from heritage preservation to cultural event management.

The program focuses on six key areas where AI can make an immediate impact. These include creativity and production, protecting historical assets, developing educational content, enhancing cultural experiences, streamlining project operations, and managing intellectual property rights.

The timing couldn't be more intentional. The launch coincides with Saudi Arabia's "Year of AI" and supports Vision 2030, the Kingdom's ambitious plan to diversify its economy beyond oil.

Majed Al-Hugail, CEO of the Cultural Development Fund, sees the program as a catalyst for unprecedented growth. "The potential of AI to unlock new avenues for investment and entrepreneurship in the cultural sector is immense," he said.

The partnership brings together the Ministry of Culture, the Cultural Development Fund, and Saudi's Data and AI Authority. Together, they're building infrastructure that doesn't just preserve the past but actively shapes the future of how people experience and interact with culture.

Khalid Albaker from the Quality of Life Program explained how the incentives work in practice. Small businesses can now afford to create innovative cultural products and services that were previously out of reach, turning cultural heritage into a productive economic force.
