Saudi Arabia Invests $533M in Water Projects for Makkah

Millions of people who visit and live in Saudi Arabia's holiest region are getting cleaner water and better sanitation services, thanks to ambitious infrastructure projects racing ahead of schedule.

Prince Khalid Al-Faisal, governor of Makkah, reviewed the remarkable progress this week with officials from the National Water Company. The news was better than expected: 19 major projects finished two months early, all while maintaining high quality standards.

The completed work represents more than $533 million in infrastructure improvements across the Makkah region. These aren't just pipes and treatment plants. They're essential services for the holy sites that welcome millions of pilgrims each year, plus the everyday residents who call this region home.

The momentum isn't slowing down. Another 119 water and sanitation projects valued at $240 million are currently in progress, all aligned with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 reform goals.

Mohammed Al-Ghamdi, head of the company's western sector, shared exciting details about what's changing on the ground. His team is working to eliminate the region's dependence on temporary water tanks by upgrading the permanent network infrastructure, starting in Al-Qunfudhah.

Recent completions include a new water center in Bahrah's Al-Bayda district and a sewage treatment station that just began operations in Rabigh. Additional treatment plants are being built in Al-Lith and Al-Qunfudhah to handle growing demand.

One project stands out for its environmental impact. Workers are connecting waterfront properties along Jeddah's central Corniche to the city's sanitation system, which will directly eliminate pollution flowing into the Red Sea.
