Saudi Arabia Invests in 3 National Parks for Eco-Tourism

Saudi Arabia is turning three of its national parks into stunning eco-tourism destinations, proving that environmental protection and visitor experiences can go hand in hand.

The National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification just locked in long-term investment contracts spanning up to 25 years. These partnerships will transform parks in the Riyadh and Northern Borders regions into accessible natural attractions while protecting the Kingdom's diverse landscapes.

The biggest project targets Arar National Park in the Northern Borders region, covering more than 14 million square meters. Investors will build visitor centers, recreational facilities, and environmental programs designed to showcase the area's natural beauty while keeping conservation front and center.

In Riyadh, two parks will get major upgrades tailored to different audiences. Wuthaylan National Park, spanning 5 million square meters, will focus on family-friendly experiences with fully serviced camps that highlight the area's ecological diversity and cultural heritage.

Saad National Park, the smallest at 2 million square meters, aims for adventure seekers. Plans include desert experiences, heritage programs, outdoor sports, and thrill-seeking activities, all woven into a sustainable hospitality framework.

The projects pull private sector money into environmental goals that might otherwise rely solely on government funding. By making these natural spaces attractive to visitors, the parks can generate revenue while advancing Saudi Arabia's bigger mission to expand vegetation cover and fight desertification.
