Saudi Arabia Launches EXOBOT, Its First Electric Vehicles

Saudi Arabia just drove into the electric vehicle revolution with wheels made at home.

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman launched EXOBOT this week, the flagship electric vehicles from CEER, Saudi Arabia's national automotive company. The rollout includes both a sedan and an SUV, designed and engineered locally with inspiration drawn from the Kingdom's landscape and culture.

This isn't just about two new cars. It's about building an entire industry from the ground up in a region better known for oil than electric motors.

The vehicles will roll off the production line at the CEER Manufacturing Complex, now the largest automotive production facility in the Middle East. The plant ranks among the most technologically advanced in the world, setting new standards for the region's manufacturing capabilities.

CEER plans to release seven different models over the next five years. The lineup will range from compact cars to mid-size vehicles, aiming to serve diverse customer needs across different markets.

The numbers tell a promising story about economic transformation. By 2034, CEER is projected to pump more than $8 billion into Saudi Arabia's GDP and improve the country's trade balance by over $21 billion.

The jobs impact extends far beyond the factory floor. The automotive company expects to create thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities, developing local talent and expertise in advanced manufacturing and engineering.

The Ripple Effect

Saudi Arabia launched CEER in 2022 through its Public Investment Fund with ambitions bigger than just making cars. The goal is to attract international investments, expand opportunities for the private sector, and position the Kingdom as a regional and global automotive hub.

The move signals how nations traditionally dependent on fossil fuels are racing to claim their stake in the electric vehicle future. Rather than watching from the sidelines as other countries dominate EV manufacturing, Saudi Arabia is building the infrastructure and expertise to compete globally.

The automotive sector now joins a growing list of industries the Kingdom is developing to diversify its economy. Each new factory, each trained engineer, and each vehicle that rolls off the line represents a step toward that vision of economic sustainability.
