The research team also identified four other tiger cat species: Leopardus tigrinus, Leopardus guttulus, Leopardus emiliae, and Leopardus pardinoides, plus a new subspecies in Peru. Each represents a distinct evolutionary path, genetically separate despite looking nearly identical.
