Seoul Tops List of Best Cities for Digital Nomads in 2026

Remote workers have more choices than ever, and a fresh ranking shows exactly where they're thriving most.

Seoul claimed the top spot as the world's best city for digital nomads, scoring 73.60 out of 100 in a comprehensive study by independent VPN review platform vpn.jpn.com. The South Korean capital impressed with nearly 60 workspaces per square kilometer, blazing fast internet at 69 Mbps, and living costs about 36% lower than the United States.

Tokyo followed closely in second place with a score of 72.61. Japan's capital stood out for its entertainment options, boasting 395 going-out venues per square kilometer, more than double Seoul's offerings.

Hanoi rounded out the top three at 71.86, winning points for affordability with prices nearly 71% below the U.S. baseline. The Vietnamese capital also features the highest concentration of workspaces in the top ten, with almost 97 spots per square kilometer.

Japan made three appearances in the top ten, with Osaka taking fifth place and Nagoya claiming ninth. Taiwan's Taipei secured fourth position with strong marks for cultural venues and nightlife.

Barcelona emerged as Europe's highest-ranked city in sixth place, scoring 68.11. Spain leads the pack in upload speeds at 36.71 Mbps, and Barcelona offers 164 comfortable working days per year. Madrid followed in seventh, trailing Barcelona slightly in workspace density and cultural offerings but sharing Spain's excellent internet infrastructure.

São Paulo claimed eighth place with 252 comfortable working days, the most in the top ten. Ho Chi Minh City rounded out the rankings in tenth, giving Vietnam two cities among the world's best for remote workers.

The Ripple Effect

The study analyzed 104 major cities worldwide, measuring workspace density, internet speed, going-out options, cultural venues, comfortable working days, and cost of living. Comfortable working days were defined as having temperatures between 15°C and 28°C with less than 5mm of rain.

This ranking reflects how cities worldwide are adapting to support the growing remote work revolution. As more professionals untether from traditional offices, destinations that invest in digital infrastructure and quality of life are becoming magnets for global talent.
