Siemens India Triples Innovations for Global Products

India just jumped from the back office to the innovation spotlight for one of Europe's biggest technology companies.

Siemens Technology and Services, the German multinational's largest tech development center outside Munich, revealed that its India operations have tripled their invention contributions to the company's global product pipeline over recent years. More than 10,000 professionals now work across five Indian cities, with 6,000 focused purely on research and development.

"India is an important innovation hub for Siemens," said Pankaj Vyas, MD and CEO of Siemens Technology and Services. The India teams now build complete solutions in industrial software, automation, digital twins, cloud platforms, and cybersecurity that get embedded into Siemens products sold worldwide.

The transformation reflects a bigger shift in how global companies view India. Multinationals no longer see the country as just a place to cut costs. Instead, Indian teams now own intellectual property from start to finish, shape product roadmaps, and drive breakthrough innovations across smart infrastructure and digital industries.

Four factors are fueling India's rise as a global capability center hub, according to Vyas. Deep engineering talent meets digital maturity, while Indian teams increasingly own global mandates. Government, industry, and academia now actively work together to enable innovation.

The Ripple Effect

The India team's recent work shows the real-world impact of this shift. Engineers developed a generative AI-powered industrial assistant that lets factory workers and designers interact with complex systems using everyday language. The tool improves productivity and decision-making across design, engineering, and shop floor operations.

Siemens is deploying AI across multiple initiatives, from code generation and validation tools to automated testing and simulation-based verification. These advances reduce iteration time while maintaining strict safety and compliance standards.

India's digital infrastructure plays a crucial role in this transformation. The scale of users, strong digital backbone, and robust telecom connectivity create an ideal testing ground for technologies that eventually serve global markets. Government and private sector efforts to modernize infrastructure, integrate artificial intelligence, and strengthen cybersecurity directly benefit Siemens' target industries.

Vyas emphasized that successful AI adoption requires more than experimentation. Companies must modernize IT infrastructure, organize data properly, and avoid accumulating technical debt to see real productivity gains.

"The real divide will not be between those who try AI and those who do not, but between organizations that experiment with AI and those that engineer repeatable platforms delivering measurable business outcomes," he said.
