Singapore Launches 200 AI Courses With 6 Months Free Tools

Workers worried about AI taking their jobs just got a lifeline from Singapore's government: free training and the tools to practice what they learn.

The city-state launched over 200 AI courses this week, ranging from simple workplace applications to advanced skills for emerging roles. Anyone who completes a course gets six free months of premium AI tools like ChatGPT Plus, Google AI Pro, or Microsoft 365 Personal to practice on real work tasks.

The program comes from Singapore's newly formed Skills and Workforce Development Agency, which combines training and career support under one roof. About 30 training providers are offering courses designed for everyone from complete beginners to experienced workers looking to level up.

Acting Minister for Manpower Jasmin Lau said many people feel lost as AI becomes part of daily work life. The goal isn't just to hand out certificates but to build real confidence through hands-on practice after training ends.

Prime Minister Lawrence Wong was clear about what's coming: every job will change as AI advances, even if it's hard to predict exactly how. Career paths will become less linear, and the skills employers need will shift faster than before.

Rather than fight those changes, Singapore is betting on preparation. The government created a 15-minute online quiz called AI Ready Quiz that assesses where someone stands and recommends personalized training paths. Results arrive by email with specific course suggestions matched to each person's current skills.

The program uses existing SkillsFuture Credits to cover remaining costs after government subsidies. Workers aged 18 and up can browse options through the MySkillsFuture portal, which the government hopes will cut through confusion about which programs exist and who runs them.

The Ripple Effect

Singapore isn't just thinking about individual workers. The new agency opened Connect by SWDA, a physical center where people can get career guidance, training recommendations, and employment help in one visit. AI-powered tools suggest job matches and funding options tailored to each person's situation.

Businesses get support too through OurWorkforce, an online portal that helps companies find training programs and redesign jobs around new technology. The thinking is simple: workers need better prospects as companies become more productive, and those two goals shouldn't live in separate worlds.

Wong emphasized that workforce development and business transformation have to happen together. As companies adopt AI and change how they operate, employees deserve the skills and career paths that match those improvements.

The message to Singapore's workers is simple: the future of work is coming whether we're ready or not, but no one has to figure it out alone.
