Six Cousins Play Football Together at Phillis Wheatley HS

When Coach Deandre Cooper calls out "Dorsey" at Phillis Wheatley High School, he might get five or six answers at once.

Three pairs of brothers, all cousins, play together on the Wildcats football team. Senior Larry Dorsey, his cousin Vincent, and their relatives Peter, Maurice, Cameron, and Kendrick have turned football into the ultimate family reunion.

"It's good, fun, a lot of energy when we are all together," Larry said. The sentiment captures what makes this team special.

On offense, brothers Peter and Maurice clear the way for cousins Vincent and Larry in the backfield. Peter describes it perfectly: "It's like having another brother. Backyard football, it just feels the same."

The defensive side of the ball is where the magic really happens. All six Dorseys sometimes take the field together, creating a web of trust that goes beyond typical teamwork.

"I know I can trust them," senior Cameron Dorsey said. "I can go to them when I need any help or when I need to study film, or I need to remember the plays."

For Vincent, playing alongside his cousins feels different than any other team experience. "It's my first time really being on the team with a lot of family members, so it feels different; it feels good just to know every one of my cousins is making a play every game," he said.

The brothers have known each other since childhood, growing up together and playing countless backyard games. That history translates into something powerful on the field. Vincent trusts that if he misses a tackle, one of his family members will clean it up.

Like any family, the Dorseys have their disagreements. But they never let those moments interfere with what matters most: the team and their bond.

"We'll have an argument here and there because we are family; we've known each other for a long time," Peter said. "It'll all come down to the end; we love each other."

That love shows up in every practice, every game, and every moment they spend together on the field. For freshman Maurice and his older relatives, this season represents something rare: the chance to compete side by side with the people who matter most.

When one Dorsey makes a play, they all celebrate together, turning individual success into family pride and team victory.
