A retired soccer hero is turning YouTube views into real help for families in crisis.

Former South Korean national team player Ahn Jung-hwan announced that his YouTube channel has raised 436 million Korean won (approximately $320,000) to assist people facing surgery costs and financial hardship. The milestone came after years of steady fundraising through his "Ahn Jung-hwan 19" channel.

Ahn credits his success to a community effort. Over 36 viewers donated through live stream Super Chats, while 157 joined his membership program. Companies providing product placements contributed significantly to the fund.

"This warmth was created together by you and me," Ahn shared in a March 15 video. "The cumulative donation amount is now 436 million Korean won. We're striving to reach 500 million."

The fundraising journey hasn't been easy. Ahn acknowledged that tough economic conditions slowed progress, with production and labor costs cutting into donation totals. He recently partnered with a pizza restaurant that will donate a portion of its profits to continue the charitable work.

The Ripple Effect

What started as one athlete's YouTube channel has grown into a community movement. Nearly 200 people have contributed directly, while countless viewers have supported through watching videos with sponsored content. The donations have already helped families cover urgent medical procedures and essential household expenses.

The pizza venture initially drew criticism, with some viewing it as a business distraction. Even Ahn's wife, former beauty queen Lee Hye-won, expressed doubts at first. But Ahn clarified the restaurant exists specifically to generate sustainable donation income.

"We can't change the world, but we'll do our best to shine a small light," Ahn said. He joked that his former teammate Kim Nam-il criticized the effort without donating "even 43,600 won" himself.

The soccer star is now racing toward 500 million won ($370,000), encouraging fans to visit the pizza restaurant and support the cause. With the World Cup approaching, he hopes increased foot traffic will help reach the milestone faster.
