
Solar Powers Over 20% of EU Electricity for Three Months

The real surprise came from the Baltic states. Latvia saw solar provide a stunning 49% of its electricity demand in June. Lithuania hit 44.7%, while Estonia reached 35.8% in the same month.

Spain and Greece both kept solar above 35% for three straight months, representing increases of five to seven percentage points compared to last year. Bulgaria joined Germany in exceeding 30% throughout the period.
Even countries typically associated with less sunshine made gains. France reached its highest-ever solar share at 14.6% in July, continuing a steady climb of about two percentage points per year.

This solar surge means cleaner air for millions of Europeans and reduced reliance on fossil fuels during peak summer months. Every percentage point of solar generation displaces electricity that would otherwise come from gas or coal plants, cutting both carbon emissions and energy costs for consumers.
