South African Lecturer Wins German Research Scholarship

Algene Koeberg-Van Boomen just scored a major win that could accelerate South Africa's shift toward sustainable transportation.

The Nelson Mandela University lecturer received a prestigious scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) to collaborate with top researchers at Leipzig University. She'll spend four weeks working alongside international experts who specialize in sustainable industrial transformation and electric vehicles.

Her mission is both practical and ambitious. Koeberg-Van Boomen is developing a framework to help small and medium automotive suppliers in South Africa assess their readiness for the electric vehicle revolution and circular economy business models.
