South Dakota Gives 40 Students Scholarships to Stay Home

Nearly 40 South Dakota high school seniors are getting the news of a lifetime: full scholarships to pursue their dreams without leaving home.

The 2026 Dakota Corp Scholarship recipients, representing 26 different high schools across the state, will have their tuition and fees covered completely. But this isn't just financial aid, it's a two-way promise that's strengthening an entire state.

Each scholarship winner signs an agreement to work in a high-need occupation in South Dakota after graduation. The math is simple: a four-year scholarship means five years of service back home, and a three-year scholarship requires four years. "These recipients have not only demonstrated exceptional academic ability and leadership, but also a genuine desire to build their careers right here at home," said Regent and Committee Chair Pam Roberts. The competitive selection process rewards students who combine strong academics with a commitment to their communities.

The program targets fields South Dakota needs most: healthcare, education, technical professions, and other in-demand careers. The South Dakota Board of Regents maintains a current list of qualifying occupations, ensuring the program adapts as workforce needs evolve.
