Spa Catholic Wins Back-to-Back State Baseball Titles

When Saratoga Central Catholic's baseball team paraded down Broadway on June 24, they weren't just celebrating a championship. They were cementing their place in New York history books.

The Spa Catholic squad just captured their second straight Class C State Championship, joining an elite club of only four teams in New York State history to win back-to-back titles. That's right: in the entire history of New York high school baseball, only three other teams have pulled off this feat.

Mayor John Stadford, State Assemblywoman Carrie Woerner, and Senator James Tedisco honored each player individually on the City Hall steps. The celebration stretched from Congress Park to City Hall, with the whole community turning out to cheer.

Coach Lambert has led this program for 37 seasons, and last year he finally reached the peak. Then his team did something even harder: they climbed that mountain again.

"These were not easy games," Lambert said at the ceremony. "These kids struggled; they went through adversity, but at the end of the day, they answered the bell."

The coach's pride went beyond trophies and banners. "Every one of these young men, I'd be proud to have as a son," he said. "That's my greatest compliment to them."
