Spanish Cyclist Wins First Grand Tour Stage in Giro Comeback

When Spanish cyclist Igor Arrieta fell 13 seconds behind his rival with just two kilometers left, victory seemed impossible—but he refused to give up.

On Wednesday in Potenza, Italy, Arrieta delivered Spain its first win of this year's Giro d'Italia by overtaking Portuguese rider Afonso Eulálio in the final meters. The stage played out on wet, treacherous roads that tested every rider's determination.

The victory marked Arrieta's first Grand Tour stage win and only the second victory of his professional career.
