Staten Island Dad Builds DIY Rainproof Ebike Shell

Rainy commutes often force cyclists off the road, but one resourceful father refused to let wet weather stop his daily ride. Quandell Williams transformed his folding ebike into a fully enclosed, all-weather sanctuary straight from his Staten Island garage.

Williams lives and works in New York with his wife and children, spending his free time engineering practical solutions for everyday family life. When he grew tired of arriving soaked on wet days, he set out to build an enclosure that keeps riders warm and completely dry.

The custom shell weighs about 70 pounds and easily mounts onto a folding fat-tired electric bicycle. Its sturdy structure combines a lightweight pipe frame, composite foam panels, sliding acrylic windows, and a clear protective roof.

Williams thought of nearly everything to make the ride comfortable. The cabin includes sliding side windows to prevent fogging, clever dashboard storage, and a rear hatch complete with a swing-out rack for hanging wet jackets.

There is even room in the back to safely carry cargo or a child passenger. The bike handles smoothly on city streets, offering a cozy and stable ride without sacrificing visibility.
