Stratford Club Hands Out Gift Cards to Families in Need

Imagine walking into a grocery store and being handed a gift card, no strings attached, just because someone wants to help.

That's exactly what the Kiwanis Club of Stratford is doing this Saturday. Club members will visit a local grocery store to hand out $10 gift cards to families who need them most.

The initiative tackles food insecurity in a direct, hands-on way. President-Elect David MacLennan says the idea started in the nearby Brantford branch and spread across their entire division.

"We've been doing it for the last few years," MacLennan said. He shared that the response has been both heartwarming and humbling.

Some shoppers decline the cards, telling volunteers to give them to someone who needs them more. That generosity, even from people facing their own challenges, shows how kindness can inspire more kindness.

The Ripple Effect

What started as one club's idea has grown into a regional movement of giving. Multiple Kiwanis clubs across the area now run similar events, multiplying the impact beyond what any single group could achieve alone.
