This breakthrough closes the final loop in wind energy. Right now, about 90 percent of a wind turbine can be recycled, but that last 10 percent has been the difference between truly clean energy and just moving the waste problem somewhere else.

The recovered epoxy doesn't just go back into new blades. It becomes raw material for dozens of industries that use composite materials, from aerospace to construction.

Since January 1, 2026, WindEurope promoted a voluntary ban on sending old blades to landfills. That timeline gives the Halmstad team serious urgency and real demand.

Vestas has committed to zero waste turbines by 2040. The Swedish testbed suggests that target isn't wishful thinking anymore.

The process uses widely available chemicals, so it doesn't require redesigning existing blades or special handling when turbines are decommissioned. Stena Recycling expects a commercial recycling model within a few years.

That means the blade graveyards quietly accumulating across rural landscapes could be the last generation of their kind. Future blades won't just catch the wind—they'll come back to catch it again.
