Swimmer Breaks Conference Record Twice in One Day

A college swimmer broke a swimming record that stood for 11 years, then came back hours later and broke his own new record.

Kristian Adlianitski of Norwich University made history at the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championships in Worcester, Massachusetts on Saturday. The junior from Cheshire, Connecticut first broke the conference record in the 100-yard individual medley during morning preliminaries with a time of 53.03 seconds. That evening, he dropped the time even lower to 52.75 seconds, setting both a new conference and program record.

But Adlianitski wasn't done making waves. He also won the 50-yard freestyle in 21.61 seconds and anchored two winning relay teams, giving him four gold medals for the day.

His teammate Andrew Clark had an equally impressive performance, winning both the 100-yard butterfly and the 500-yard freestyle. Clark led a complete podium sweep in the distance race, with Norwich swimmers taking first, second, and third place.

The Cadets claimed seven of the eight events they competed in on Day 2. Adrian Riendeau won the 50-yard backstroke, and Norwich's relay teams finished first in both the 200-yard and 800-yard freestyle relays.

Norwich's dominance tells a bigger story about teamwork and depth. While individual stars like Adlianitski shine bright, the team's success comes from everyone contributing. Max Ansell added crucial points with a third-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke, and multiple swimmers placed in the top three across events.

The Cadets now hold a commanding 320.5 to 151.5 lead over second-place University of Saint Joseph heading into the final day. They've won 15 events across two days of competition as they chase their fourth straight conference championship.

Sunday's finals will determine if Norwich can complete their wire-to-wire run. With momentum on their side and record-breaking performances fueling their confidence, the team is positioned to close out another championship in style.
