Swiss Firm Invests $10M in India Solar Connector Plant
A Swiss manufacturer is pumping $10 million into expanding its Indian solar connector factory, a move that will create millions of parts for the country's booming clean energy future. The facility will produce 26 million connector sets yearly while training local suppliers to build India's solar manufacturing backbone.
India's solar revolution just got a major boost from an unexpected source: the tiny connectors that make solar panels actually work.
Swiss electrical connector maker Stäubli announced a $10 million expansion of its Bengaluru manufacturing facility, tripling down on India's potential as both a solar powerhouse and a critical link in the global clean energy supply chain. The upgraded plant will churn out 26 million solar connector sets each year starting in January 2026.
These aren't glamorous components. MC4 connectors are the unsung heroes that link solar panels to inverters and other equipment. But poor quality connectors cause system failures and even fires, making reliable manufacturing critical as India races toward its renewable energy goals.
The facility runs on Industry 4.0 automated assembly lines, putting each connector through more than 150 quality checks. Stäubli currently commands half the global market for these parts and aims to capture the same share in India within three years.
What makes this investment special isn't just the money or the machines. Stäubli is building a network of Indian suppliers to manufacture components locally, targeting 25% localization by 2026 and eventually exceeding 50%. That means skills transfer, job creation, and a stronger domestic supply chain.

"We are working with different levels of manufacturers," said Gurupad Bhat, managing director of Stäubli India. The company is engaging everyone from solar panel makers to asset owners, educating the market about why quality connectors matter for system safety and performance.
The expanded facility operates as a zero-discharge plant with energy-efficient processes, walking the talk on sustainability. It will supply customers across Delhi, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and international markets.
The Ripple Effect
This investment shows how India's clean energy boom is creating opportunities that extend far beyond installing panels. By developing local suppliers, especially small and medium enterprises, Stäubli is helping build the manufacturing ecosystem India needs to truly lead in solar.
The facility will reduce lead times and strengthen supply chain resilience for Indian solar developers and contractors. That means faster project completion, lower costs, and more reliable systems powering homes and businesses across the country.
"India is a key pillar in Stäubli's global growth and manufacturing strategy," said CEO Gerald Vogt. The company's bet on India reflects growing confidence that the country will be central to the world's renewable energy future, not just as a market but as a maker.
Sometimes the biggest progress comes in small packages, and 26 million connectors a year adds up to a brighter, cleaner future.
