Swiss Solar Panels Now Come Glare-Free as Standard
A Swiss solar manufacturer just made anti-glare technology standard on all its rooftop panels after popular demand. The move could make solar installations easier to approve in neighborhoods and near roads where glare has been a roadblock.
Solar panels are getting a much-needed makeover that could help them blend into more neighborhoods without the annoying glare.
Swiss manufacturer Megasol just announced that all its Level Up rooftop solar modules will now come standard with anti-glare surfaces. The company made the switch after customers flooded them with requests, especially for projects in residential areas and near highways where reflected sunlight can be a safety issue.
The technology, called Zero Reflect Matt+ (ZRM+), uses a microstructured glass surface that scatters light instead of bouncing it directly into people's eyes. Think of it like the difference between a matte photo finish and a glossy one.
Here's where it gets interesting. Regular solar panels can create intense reflections at certain angles, sometimes bright enough to distract drivers or bother neighbors. Megasol's anti-glare surface keeps brightness between 3,000 and 18,000 candelas per square meter at steep angles, about the same as regular clay roof tiles.

Independent testing from Bern University of Applied Sciences confirmed the panels stay below Switzerland's legal glare limit of 20,000 candelas across all sun positions. That's a big deal for getting permits approved in areas with strict building codes.
The Level Up system is now the first fully integrated solar roofing to offer this glare reduction across every component, from the panels themselves to the mounting rails and accessories. The panels have a deep matte, velvety appearance that looks more like a traditional roof than a tech installation.
The Ripple Effect
This shift could open doors for solar in places that previously said no because of glare concerns. Dense neighborhoods, areas near airports, and historic districts often reject solar projects based on appearance and light reflection issues.
By making anti-glare standard rather than optional, Megasol is removing one more barrier between homeowners and clean energy. The panels still pack serious performance too, with efficiency above 200 watts per square meter, hail resistance rated to Class 5, and full rain protection.
When going green gets easier on the eyes, more people can say yes to renewable energy.
