Tampa Makes Baseball History with Third Straight Title

The University of Tampa Spartans didn't just win another championship. They made history that no other Division II baseball team has ever achieved.

On Saturday, June 6, Tampa defeated West Chester 8-4 in the decisive Game 3 of the championship series in Cary, North Carolina. The victory marks their third straight national title, a feat no team in DII baseball's 58-year history has ever accomplished.

Head coach Joe Urso's squad wasn't handed an easy path to glory. After winning Game 1 of the championship series 7-4, Tampa dropped Game 2 by a lopsided 12-4 score. But the Spartans rallied when it mattered most, dominating the winner-take-all finale.
