Teen Back at School Weeks After Serious E-Bike Crash

When Kohen Pittman was struck by a vehicle while riding his e-bike across State Highway 29 in Liberty Hill, Texas on August 10, doctors rushed him to the ICU with a broken ankle, broken ribs, multiple facial fractures, and a brain bleed. Today, just weeks later, the 14-year-old is attending school for half days.

His mother Kerri Pittman still marvels at how far her son has come. "When I look at where he was and where he is now, I'm just so thankful," she said.

The recovery hasn't been easy. After each school day, Kohen heads straight to bed, his body still healing from the trauma. This week he'll undergo reconstructive surgery on his nose and jaw, followed by another week of recovery at home.

But the Pittman family has plenty to celebrate beyond Kohen's physical progress. After the accident, a stranger named Colleen Montez stopped to help, checking his pulse, controlling his bleeding, and calling 911 while waiting for emergency responders. Recently, Kohen got to meet her and say thank you.

"She saw him there and didn't just keep going," Kerri said. "We truly believe she was his angel that day."
