Teen Builds $40 Air Purifier, Teaches Delhi Students

In Delhi, where air quality regularly reaches dangerous levels, one teenager decided to stop waiting for someone else to fix the problem.

Aarkin Soni was just 17 when he built FiltAir, a DIY air purifier made from cardboard, a HEPA filter, and determination. The cost? Just ₹2,500 (about $30), compared to commercial purifiers that can run over ₹10,000.

But Aarkin didn't stop at solving his own problem. He took his design straight to Delhi's government schools, where students from lower-income families face the worst effects of air pollution without access to expensive purifiers.

Now he's teaching kids to build their own FiltAir units. Students learn basic engineering, environmental science, and most importantly, that they have the power to improve their own lives.

The design is brilliantly simple: a cardboard frame houses a HEPA filter with a small fan pulling air through. It's effective, repairable, and uses materials most families can access.
