Teen Cashier Pays $80 Bill for Stranger, Gets $12K Back

Brent Cabahug was just doing his job at a Minnesota Walmart when an elderly woman's card kept declining at his register. The line behind her grew restless, but the 17-year-old cashier had already made his decision.

He walked around the register and paid her $80 grocery bill out of his own pocket. Then he went straight back to work like nothing had happened.

Dani Dircks, a mom of four waiting in line, watched the whole thing unfold. She couldn't stop thinking about what she'd witnessed.

"I watched this cashier, knowing nothing about him, walk around, knowing nothing about that lady, and he didn't care," Dircks told WCCO. "He didn't care in that moment who she was, who she loved, who she voted for."

Dircks decided to learn more about the teen behind the gesture. She discovered that Cabahug moved from the Philippines to Minnesota with his mom and sister, and Walmart was his first job as a senior at Stillwater Area High School.

He was saving every paycheck to buy a car. After graduation, he planned to help his family buy a house and eventually become a nurse after a leg injury ended his volleyball career.
