When teenage cricket sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was dropped on the very first ball he faced, most players would have breathed a sigh of relief and played it safe. Instead, the 15-year-old unleashed one of the most spectacular batting displays the Indian Premier League has ever seen.

Sooryavanshi smashed 52 runs off just 17 balls as Rajasthan Royals demolished Chennai Super Kings by eight wickets on Tuesday. His 15-ball half-century ranks as the third fastest fifty in IPL history, a stunning achievement for the youngest player in the league.

The teenager showed no mercy after his lucky escape, hammering five sixes and four boundaries in a performance that left the opposition reeling. Two of those massive sixes came off New Zealand bowler Matt Henry, the same player whose dropped catch had given Sooryavanshi his lifeline.

His explosive start powered Rajasthan to 74 runs without losing a wicket during the powerplay, essentially deciding the match before Chennai could recover. Opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal watched the fireworks from the other end, later finishing unbeaten on 38 off 36 balls.

"The plan was to decide the game in the powerplay as we'd restricted them to a low score," Sooryavanshi explained after the match. "After every ball Jaiswal doesn't tell me to take a single. He tells me that the ball's going off the bat nicely and to keep going."
