Teen Girl Wrestler Hits 30-0 Season, Extends 58-Match Streak

A three-time state champion just reminded everyone why she's ranked among Pennsylvania's best pound-for-pound wrestlers, and she's bringing four teammates along for the ride.

Brenda Banks from Panther Valley High School dominated the District 11 Girls Wrestling Championships in Bethlehem this past weekend, winning all three matches by pin. The victories pushed her season record to a perfect 30-0 and extended her winning streak to 58 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Banks earned Outstanding Wrestler of the Tournament honors while improving her career record to 103-2. Of her 30 wins this season, 25 have come by pin and five by forfeit. She hasn't just been winning at 235 pounds. She's been unstoppable.

Pine Grove sophomore Geanna Lemke also claimed a district title at 142 pounds, winning four matches over the weekend to improve to 29-3. After starting with two technical fall victories, Lemke finished her day with two pins to secure her regional berth.

Lemke enters this weekend's Southeast Regional Championships at Quakertown High School on a six-match winning streak with a career record of 59-11. Last year as a freshman, she finished second at districts and fifth at regionals.

Why This Inspires

These five young women are rewriting what's possible in a sport that only recently opened its doors to girls at the high school level. Banks' 103-2 career record stands as testament to years of dedication, early morning practices, and pushing through barriers.

Three more Schuylkill League wrestlers earned regional spots alongside Banks and Lemke. Panther Valley's Alisa Williams finished second at 170 pounds with a 29-5 season record. Pine Grove's Rieleigh Purcell claimed second at 190 pounds in her first regional appearance, bringing a 19-8 record with 12 pins. Audrey Graeff took third at 235 pounds with a 9-6 record, her only Sunday loss coming against Banks herself.

Williams is making her second trip to regionals after finishing fourth last year and advancing to the state championships. Graeff won five of six matches over the weekend, proving she belongs on the bigger stage.

The Southeast Regional Championships begin this weekend at Quakertown High School. For Banks, it's another step toward what could be her fourth consecutive state title.
