Telford Opens First Town Centre A-Level Campus

Students walking through the doors of Telford 6th this term are making history as the first to study A-levels in the town centre itself.

The multi-million pound campus, which officially opened this week, converts the former Addenbrooke House council offices into a bright, modern learning space. Located next to The Quad and close to bus routes and rail links, the facility makes advanced qualifications accessible to students from every corner of Telford.

The transformation represents a major partnership between Telford & Wrekin Council and Telford College. After contractors handed over the building in August, the college invested £1 million in state-of-the-art equipment before students arrived this month.

"We want our students to have an exceptional sixth form experience, to be challenged academically and to have access to opportunities that will help them make ambitious choices about their futures," said Clare Snik, Vice Principal of Telford 6th.

The location matters just as much as the facilities. By placing A-level education in the town centre, organizers created an academic campus at Station Quarter that students can easily reach from anywhere in the borough.

The Ripple Effect

This investment reaches far beyond new classrooms and equipment. Local employers joined educators and civic leaders at the opening ceremony, signaling the connection between education and economic opportunity.

MP Shaun Davies, who unveiled the commemorative plaque, sees the campus as an investment in talent that already exists in Telford. "There is an incredible amount of talent among Telford's young people, and I see it every time I visit our schools and colleges," he said.

The campus gives young people the chance to build careers without leaving their community. Council Cabinet Member Shirley Reynolds emphasized that the facility provides "skills and knowledge to secure future careers in different sectors which can lead to a bright future."

For Principal Lawrence Wood, the opening marks "a huge moment for post-16 education in Telford" that demonstrates commitment not just to students, but to the local economy for decades ahead.

The early signs look promising: students are already responding positively to their new sixth form home, just weeks after opening.
