Texas Town Grows 25% in One Year as Families Flock In

A small Texas town an hour north of Dallas just became America's fastest-growing city, and it's managing to keep its heart intact.

Celina, Texas grew by 24.6% between 2024 and 2025, according to new U.S. Census Bureau estimates. That means roughly one in four people living there today weren't residents just a year ago.

A few years ago, this was a quiet ranching town surrounded by open fields. Now bulldozers outnumber cattle, and sprawling new neighborhoods rise almost overnight as families flee high-tax states for more affordable housing, better schools, and extra space.

Mayor Ryan Tubbs sees the transformation daily. "If you drive around Celina, you can definitely tell that we're the fastest growing city," he told Fox News Digital. "We have a lot of road construction going on, a lot of new sewer and water lines, just all different infrastructure projects getting ready to service our residents of the future."

The boom reflects explosive growth reshaping North Texas as communities on the outer edges of Dallas-Fort Worth expand at record rates. These once-small towns are gaining greater influence over schools, infrastructure, and statewide priorities as more people relocate.

The rapid expansion tests Celina's water supply, roads, and utilities as the city races to keep up with demand. About 30% of residents work remotely, while others commute to nearby economic hubs like Frisco and McKinney. The top employer is the school district with nearly 1,000 workers.

The Ripple Effect

What makes Celina's story remarkable isn't just its growth rate. It's that residents say the city has managed to preserve the close-knit community feel that drew families there in the first place.

"Yes, we can see and feel the growth, but we haven't lost our sense of community here in Celina," resident Carolyn Harvey said. City leaders credit community traditions like Memorial Day gatherings in the downtown square for maintaining that small-town identity.

Local officials are working to balance expansion by upgrading infrastructure while attracting more businesses so residents can eventually work closer to home. "It definitely brings jobs, but it also brings a lot of challenges from an infrastructure standpoint," Tubbs said. "But it brings a lot of opportunities."

The mayor's advice for newcomers captures the spirit keeping Celina connected through its transformation: "Get involved, give back and see how much you get back from the community."
