Thai PM Tours China's Robot Maker After Humanoid Exports Surge

A humanoid robot dressed in traditional Thai clothing greeted Thailand's Prime Minister in his native language, and he loved it.

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul toured Chinese robotics company AgiBot in Shanghai on July 17, 2026, during the World AI Conference. The visit aimed to bring advanced robot technology to Thailand for agriculture, manufacturing, tourism, and city services.

During the tour, another AgiBot robot performed a Muay Thai routine with precise, fluid movements that impressed the delegation. The prime minister praised China's progress in embodied AI, calling it "a key force reshaping regional economic structures."

Charnvirakul said Thailand is speeding up its digital transformation and needs these advanced technologies. He hopes to establish regular collaboration between the two countries and position Thailand as an AI innovation hub within Southeast Asia.

The visit reflects broader momentum in China's robotics exports. In the first half of this year, China shipped over 10,000 intelligent bionic robots to more than 90 countries worldwide, according to China's customs data.

Industrial robot exports hit $930 million in the same period, up 18.6 percent from last year. Those products reached 141 countries and regions around the globe.

The Ripple Effect

Thailand isn't alone in seeking Chinese robotics partnerships. In June, Myanmar's president visited Unitree Robotics in Hangzhou to explore similar collaborations.

These diplomatic visits signal growing international recognition of China's intelligent manufacturing capabilities. Southeast Asian nations see robotics as a path to modernize traditional industries while building future-ready economies.

For Thailand specifically, AI robots could transform multiple sectors at once. Farming could become more efficient, factories more productive, cities better managed, and tourist experiences more engaging.

The technology is moving rapidly from research labs to real-world use. AgiBot's approach combines large AI models with deployment-ready robots, making the technology practical for everyday applications rather than just demonstrations.

As more countries adopt these innovations, the benefits multiply. Agricultural productivity gains in Thailand could improve food security across the region. Manufacturing upgrades could create better jobs and stronger trade networks.

Thailand's enthusiasm shows how AI and robotics cooperation is replacing traditional trade as the foundation for international partnerships.
