Women in their sixties competing in intense HYROX fitness competition with determination

These 60-Somethings Just Competed at Fitness Worlds

🦸 Hero Alert

While most people their age are slowing down, a group of women in their 60s are crushing HYROX World Championships. They're proving that age is just a number when it comes to serious athletic achievement.

When Cara Canzani called her sister the night before her first HYROX race, she was panicking about competing alongside women half her age. The 61-year-old personal assistant from New York had no idea she was about to shatter her goals and change her entire perspective on aging.

HYROX is a grueling fitness competition that combines eight kilometers of running with eight functional fitness stations like sled pushes and sandbag lunges. It's intense enough for 20-somethings, but these women in their 60s aren't just participating—they're dominating.

Canzani set out to finish her first race in under two hours. Instead, she crushed it in 1:39:28 and won her entire age group. She's since completed five races in less than two years, including the World Championships in Stockholm, Sweden.

"With my age and my hip replacement, I'm just happy I'm finishing," Canzani says. Yet finishing clearly isn't her only achievement—she's competing at a level most people never reach at any age.

Julie Tippetts, 61, brings her own powerful motivation to the competition. After losing her mother and two sisters to breast cancer, and watching another sister battle Alzheimer's, she's determined to stay healthy and active. She wants to jump on trampolines with her grandkids and chase them at sporting events rather than watch from the sidelines.

At the Stockholm World Championships, Tippetts competed twice in one weekend. She placed 12th in her age group in the solo race on Friday, then returned two days later to compete in mixed doubles with her husband Steve.

Tippetts even competes with her daughter Lauren, an Elite 15 HYROX athlete. The mother-daughter duo ranked first in their age group at a Vancouver competition. During races, they share a mantra: "I feel good, I feel strong, I feel fast."

From Maine, friends Fran Jensen and Darlene St. Hilaire discovered HYROX almost by accident. Jensen originally signed up solo, but decided to share her birthday weekend with St. Hilaire instead. Their gym's motto—"pack mentality, individual goals"—perfectly captures how they approach both fitness and life.

Why This Inspires

These women aren't defying age—they're redefining it. They're showing that hip replacements, family health histories, and decades of birthdays don't have to mean stepping back from challenges. They're stepping up to them.

Their message goes beyond fitness competitions: it's never too late to set ambitious goals and crush them.
